Both anecdotal and survey evidence suggest that using a hedge fund as part of an investment strategy can have both good and bad results. As other funding sources dry up, endowments, trusts, and private investors may attempt to compensate for poor performance by pursuing higher returns or alternative strategies. In this article we examine the nuanced nature of hedge funds.
